State Representative Ron Robinson, R-Utica, expressed his support for a comprehensive road funding plan introduced by several Republican representatives in the Michigan House that focuses on fixing our roads without the tax hikes. The proposed legislation aims to tackle Michigan’s long-standing transportation challenges without putting an additional financial burden on residents.
“The state’s road issues have been a constant concern, and addressing them is long overdue,” said Robinson, R-Utica. “This new plan is a more cost-effective solution to the state’s transportation needs. The governor introduced a budget that somehow raised taxes and still didn’t find space to fund our local roads. Her plan is more of the same, house republicans are offering something new.”
The proposed road plan, House Bills 4180-4187, will dedicate an additional $3.1 billion to fixing our crumbling infrastructure every year without raising taxes. The bills were referred to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
“Budget cuts are necessary, but it’s just as important that we reallocate funding efficiently, ensuring that more of our resources go toward fixing our local roads like the ones right here in Macomb County,” said Robinson. “The issue isn’t that the state lacks funds—it’s about how those funds are being used. Michiganders are sick of the same story. We are done spending more money just to get the same bad results. This plan is a new direction and frankly, a breath of fresh air.”
