Rep. Markkanen highlights pivotal grant awarded to Houghton
RELEASE|September 29, 2021

State Rep. Greg Markkanen today announced the city of Houghton has been awarded a grant to provide people with improved, more efficient infrastructure.

A total of $1,035,000 in water-related infrastructure grant awards will be provided to the community through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Michigan Strategic Fund’s Community Development Block Grant Program.

“This funding is a critical investment into a western U.P. community – allowing Houghton to address public health and infrastructure planning while making the city an even better place to work, live and raise a family,” said Markkanen, of Hancock. “I am excited to see this funding be put into action, and I will continue fighting for measures that improve our way of life in the U.P.”

The Houghton project will address water and sanitary sewer main work, while also replacing manholes on two streets.

Rep. Markkanen is in his second term representing residents in Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties, as well as Powell and Ishpeming townships in Marquette County.
