Rep. Posthumus talks about House passage Tuesday of SB 768, which provides an estimated $2.5 billion in annual, ongoing tax relief starting with a rollback in the individual income tax rate to 3.9 percent, down from the current 4.25 percent. Individuals over 62 would see their income exempted from taxes increase to $20,000 for individuals and $40,000 for joint filers. The plan also provides additional relief for families through a $500-per-child income tax credit.
“The Democratic majority is doing whatever they can to pass a tax hike onto families and small businesses throughout Michigan. This bill was written in secret, efforts were made behind the scenes to strong-arm members, and Republicans weren’t allowed to stand up for Michigan taxpayers and speak against this — violating our right to debate.”
“It’s an honor to continue serving families in Kent County,” Posthumus said. “My staff and I are already hard at work serving the hardworking taxpayers here. I look forward to another term of service and bringing our West Michigan values to the Capitol.”
