State Rep. Timmy Beson today applauded a new redevelopment project in downtown Bay City that will create 30 full-time jobs, provide additional housing opportunities and strengthen the local economy.

“This project will soon provide vitality and new housing opportunities to downtown Bay City,” said Beson, of Bangor Township. “Enhancing the vitality of Bay City will help serve as an incentive for more community projects in the future. I am eager to see the finished product.”

Two adjacent buildings in downtown Bay City will be redeveloped to include first floor space that is currently planned to be occupied by North Peak Brewing Company and Kilkenny Irish Pub, with three loft-style apartments on the second floor.

The 1108 Water Street endeavor projects a total capital investment of $4.8 million and the creation of 30 full-time jobs. The project will use Federal Historic Tax Credits to restore the two buildings, which are both listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Michigan Strategic Fund approved a Michigan Community Revitalization Program performance-based grant of $1.5 million, while Bay City is supporting the project through a 12-year Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Act property tax abatement valued at $871,787.
